My thoughts are not going toward counter-tops and home improvements, rather toward behavior patterns. Knowingly or not, many of us counter one another in normal conversation. It may not seem intentional, but it is disruptive as a counter move.
Jesus had just stated, “The Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath.” Now that was in conclusion. We are then told, “On another Sabbath day, a man with a deformed right hand was in the synagogue while Jesus was teaching. The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees watched Jesus closely. If he healed the man’s hand, they planned to accuse Him of working on the Sabbath.” They were prepared to counter Jesus as a point of law, not considering the very possibility that He had just stated, in essence, He was the author of the very law Himself as Messiah!
So Jesus does what you would expect Him as God to do, according to God’s will and plan. “He looked around at them one by one and then said to the man (not verbally answering the leaders), “Hold out your hand.” So the man held out his hand, and it was restored! At this, the enemies of Jesus were wild with rage and began to discuss what to do with Him.” Do not our very eyes and ears close when our emotions take us over and out in a counter move?
Father, in sight of our self-centeredness and vain glory, may we surrender our sword of tongue to You through Your Son; and countering, “Take an interest in others, having the same attitude that Christ Jesus exhibited.”
Luke 6:5-7, 10-11, Philippians 2:3-5 NLT
