What was it you had to practice when you were little? Was it blowing bubbles with bubble gum? Whistling? Reaching for the next bar of the jungle gym? Writing your letters and learning your multiplication tables? Whatever it was, you were practicing to be different, a skillset or a way of thinking. It took practice to make these changes. In fact, it takes perfect practice to make perfect. Some later even make their life work, called, a practice, be it law or medical, and every service, as rhythms, over and again; a practice through practice.
One Bible mentor to a younger wrote, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because of your youth; on the contrary, set the believers an example in your speech, behavior, love, trust and purity. Be diligent about this work, throw yourself into it, so that your progress may be clear to everyone.” A practice by practice.
Father, thank You for Your desire of us, that we reflect Your glory, Your speech, behavior, love, trust and purity; even as a practice, living in Your presence through Your Son, in-Christ, by Your in-dwelling Spirit. Draw us by Your power.
“Learn to practice godliness toward your own family first…, for this pleases God.” And how can one learn to practice godliness without being in the presence of God Himself; listening, observing, studying, reviewing, thinking, talking and walking with Him? Not really a question, is it. And so with speech, behavior, love, trust, and purity. Did not Moses even glow from being with Him? Practice His presence, pleasing to Him.
